LAHM Joins CIG
A Historic Moment for the Louis Armstrong House Museum 🎺
We are thrilled to share exciting news: the Louis Armstrong House Museum has officially been named a member of New York City’s Cultural Institutions Group (CIG).
This historic expansion marks one of the rare occasions when multiple new organizations have joined the CIG at once, the last being in 2019, and before that in 2000. With this announcement, the CIG now includes 39 institutions across all five boroughs, each serving as a cultural anchor in its community.
What This Means for Us
Becoming part of the CIG is both an honor and a responsibility. As a member institution, the Louis Armstrong House Museum will continue to expand access to affordable, inclusive programming for all New Yorkers. and strengthen our role as a cultural anchor for Queens, the city, and Armstrong fans worldwide.
This milestone delivers on the city’s commitment, as outlined in Mayor Eric Adams’ 2025 State of the City address, to broaden cultural access and ensure that every borough has thriving institutions rooted in community.
We are especially grateful that this effort was championed by Commissioner Laurie Cumbo and supported by our Board of Trustees, including Board Chair Jay Hershenson, CUNY/Queens College, the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, and our partners in the New York City Council, notably Speaker Adrienne Adams and Council member Francisco Moya.
A Commitment to Community
For us, this is a moment to reaffirm our mission: to preserve and celebrate Louis Armstrong’s legacy while making culture accessible, joyful, and meaningful for all.
We look forward to continuing to welcome you, our neighbors, visitors, students, and supporters, to the House that Satchmo built, now as an official member of NYC’s Cultural Institutions Group.
